History Made: Shedeur Sanders first college athlete named PLB Sports & Entertainment Player of the Week

Over the years during football season, the names of Josh Allen, Nick Chubb, Stefon Diggs, Patrick Mahomes, DeAndre Hopkins and others have earned PLB Sports & Entertainment Player of the Week.

This past week, it appeared one of those names would top the list once again. However, a college athlete not only was in the running, he won the honor.

With his 30-for-36 effort for 336 yards and three touchdowns, Sheduer Sanders was named the PLB Sports & Entertainment Player of the Week, the first time a college athlete has won.

Sanders has led Jackson State to a 5-0 record and his name is now in the Heisman Trophy conversation. On the season, Sanders is a remarkable 151-for-208 passing for 1,726 yards and 17 touchdowns against just two interceptions. He also has two rushing touchdowns. Against Florida A&M to start the season, Sanders was 29-of-33 for 323 yards and five touchdowns.

With the new NIL rules, Sanders was able to sign with PLBSE and create his own barbecue sauce, #2 BBQ Sauce. Sanders is taking advantage of this opportunity to give back to HBCU's by donating a portion of the proceeds to the Thurgood Marshall Fund.

"We just had to give back to our own people, and it was the only right thing to do," Sanders said. "And I felt like the Thurgood Marshall Fund was the best place for the money to go."

Thurgood Marshall Fund's mission is to ensure student success by promoting educational excellence and preparing the next generation of workforce talent through leadership development.

Sanders likes to put barbecue sauce on his food, and he was instrumental in the recipe and final product.

"When my team approached me about creating my own BBQ sauce, I said, 'that's all I eat, that's perfect!' It's very genuine and never forced. We tasted a couple of different options. I gave my feedback on what I did and didn't like," Sanders said. "And we got together and made the perfect sauce. That was it. This is the one."

Expect to taste "a tomato-based rich, thick, sweet, molasses-style BBQ sauce, including tangy vinegar and fiery cayenne heat that finishes with a subtle smoky note." (Click HERE for the product)

Sanders and PLBSE have #2 BBQ Sauce available online at plbse.com as well as the Jackson State's bookstore and Jackson-area Kroger grocery stores. "We just need everybody to get it and try it for yourself, and then everything will take off from there," Sanders expressed.

"Growing up, I saw firsthand the power of branding," said Sanders. "I'm looking forward to creating the Shedeur Sanders brand, and with NIL and PLBSE, I'm able to start sooner than I ever imagined."

For more than 30 years, PLBSE has created unique brands and lines for athletes and entertainers such as Patrick Mahomes' Mahomes Magic Crunch, Doug Flutie's Flutie Flakes, Josh Allen's Josh Jaq's, Barstool Sports Pardon My Flakes, Stefon Diggs Hot Sauce and many more.

"PLB Sports and Entertainment is proud to partner with Shedeur Sanders and assist him in building his brand at retail," PLBSE CEO Ty Ballou noted. "We see this as just the start for Shedeur at retail, and we look forward to seeing his brand continue to grow and expand at retail."
